Just as he thought and heard of, the Dark Forest lived up to its name. Hardly any moonlight shone into the forest, and he was unable to see anything just a few steps ahead.
Strangely though, the Dark Forest was made up of all dead and withered trees, and there were no leaves there to block the moonlight from entering, yet it seemed that just a few branches from the trees over him were able to block all the crimson moonlight that attempted to seep through.
As he continued proceeding forth, he noticed that the road split into two. He looked up and saw a strange signpost.
Onwards - Left
Death - Right
While it did seem like an obvious choice on what he should have chosen, he remained silent, and moved towards the path on the right...
The path looked totally ordinary, nothing out of place. The dead leaves strewn all over the ground and dry soil just showed how bad the condition was within the Forest, and he knew that he needed to get out of the area as soon as possible, unless he wanted to be part of the Forest-- as a corpse.
A large lake loomed across the path he was walking, as if appearing from nowhere. He couldn't be bothered with it and proceeded across the lake. Strangely enough, it seemed as though the surface of the lake was rock solid and he could move on the surface as if walking on ground.
With each step he took, he felt something wasn't right but continued moving.
Just then, beneath his feet, he saw a small glow that spread out like a ripple, before disappearing. While his instincts told him to head back, he went against himself and moved forward.
Yet, with every step, the glow continued to appear, seemingly brighter with every step, extending larger into the lake.
What he never expected was what happened when he took the last step towards the center of the lake...
